This page has been put together for parents/carers of Year 8 students, to provide the information needed to best understand and support your child’s learning at this stage in their academic career.
It is crucial that there is a clear contact line between parents/carers and the Year 9 Pastoral team. All the information listed below may answer some questions already, but please ensure you know who to contact when needed.
This is a very important year for your son/daughter as they look to build on the learning made in the last two years and aim to make progress in all of their subjects in the run up to their GCSE options being selected. It is crucial that your son/daughter puts their full effort into their work to ensure that they are able to make informed choices.
We have high expectations for all students and this includes consistently demonstrating excellent behaviour, engagement and independence in their learning. We also expect students to have a high attendance of over 96% and to be punctual to school and all of their lessons. Finally, we expect students to wear the school unform correctly and with pride. We expect students to be brilliant ambassadors for the school – both internally and externally.
We will consistently challenge and support students to ensure that they develop into young adults that the school, parents and the local community will be proud of.

Year 9 Form Tutors
Form tutors should be the first point of contact if there is a pastoral issue regarding your son/daughter. Please contact their subject teacher of you have questions or concerns specific to that particular subject. You will be able to find all staff email addresses on the school website.

Year 9 Form Time
Students have a short registration period at the start of the day and a longer 20-minute form time after break. Form time will cover a range of activities including silent and class reading, literacy tasks, well-being tasks, current affairs, revision techniques and discussions regarding student behaviour and attendance. There will also be a weekly assembly that will be run by different members of staff, covering a variety of different areas.
Form time is an essential part of the school day and students are expected to come to form time fully prepared to learn. Form time is exceedingly valuable and it is imperative that it is not missed through lateness. Students should always have their reading book and should expect regular uniform and equipment checks carried out by their form tutor and/or Head of Year.
Homework
Homework will follow a similar pattern to Year 8, however more emphasis may be on preparing for assessments through effective revision. Written homework will not necessarily be set on every occasion. Homework may involve reading, oral work or an investigation. All homework will now be set on Google Classroom. Students should expect at least one piece of homework a week for each subject. In Year 9, students should expect to spend 1 hour a day on homework. It is also an expectation that all KS3 students should be completing 30 minutes reading a day for pleasure. Failure to hand in or complete homework to an acceptable standard may result in sanctions.

Revision
Teachers are always on hand to support students if needed, and many subject teachers will have already shared useful and relevant revision techniques with their classes ahead of tests and assessments. Please monitor your son/daughter in their learning and encourage them to have well-presented and organised work. This will help them greatly when they need to revise their learning and prepare for module or end of year tests.
Extra-curricular Information
There are lots of clubs at Chancellor’s, some of which run at lunchtime and some afterschool. Clubs will be promoted within lessons, as well as posters around the school, the school website and the parent bulletin, which is sent home at the end of each week. PE practices and fixtures can be found on the PE Twitter page.
